Shortly after announcing our first keynote, we are excited to introduce the second keynote speaker for the EMDR Europe Workshop Conference 2026 in Oslo. Helinä Häkkänen will focus on EMDR therapy with clients involved in legal processes.

Helinä Häkkänen, PhD, is a psychologist, psychotherapist, and EMDR Consultant from Finland. She is the founder and managing partner of Mindroot Ltd, a private psychology and psychotherapy company, where she works with clients and provides supervision and training in EMDR therapy and trauma-informed practice.

How can EMDR therapy support clients who are navigating the intense stress of legal proceedings? In this compelling keynote, Helinä Häkkänen explores the clinical application of EMDR with plaintiffs, defendants, and witnesses involved in investigations and court processes. Drawing on decades of work in legal and criminal psychology, Helinä Häkkänen examines how trauma-related stress can affect testimony, behaviour, and perceived credibility, and presents trauma-informed EMDR interventions designed to promote safety, stability, and empowerment throughout legal proceedings. Integrating clinical practice, research findings, and collaboration with institutions such as the International Criminal Court, she offers a unique perspective on how EMDR therapy can contribute to both psychological well-being and more reliable, fair judicial outcomes.
