Is this an EMDR patient ? How understanding AIP opens unseen possibilities for reprocessing

Is this an EMDR patient? In this thought-provoking keynote, Bjørn Aksel Aasen invites clinicians to rethink the boundaries of EMDR therapy through a deeper understanding of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model. Drawing on more than three decades of clinical practice, training, and international teaching, Bjørn Aasen explores how pathogenic and unprocessed memories shape maladaptive patterns across a wide range of disorders—not only PTSD. By adopting a transdiagnostic perspective, this session highlights how EMDR processing can be applied far more broadly than many practitioners realize, helping therapists identify meaningful targets, overcome conceptual blind spots, and unlock the full adaptive potential of EMDR therapy in diverse clinical contexts.

Bjørn Aksel Aasen is a Norwegian clinical psychologist and EMDR Europe Accredited Senior Trainer. He has practiced EMDR since 1994 and been a trainer since 2006. Aasen has delivered EMDR training and workshops across Europe, Asia, and Africa on trauma, dissociation, addiction, achievement, supervision, and the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.
